12 Ways to Avoid Cystitis / UTI

COME ON GUYS & GALS - LET'S TACKLE THE SCOURGE OF CYSTITIS / UTIs / BLADDER INFECTIONS HEAD-ON! ..

wpc503ec50[1]Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is also commonly know in many countries as Cystitis, and persistent cystitis is an ongoing problem for many.

It is more common amongst women than men, although increasing numbers of men are now acquiring the condition.

The problem persists and becomes more difficult to treat because many men and women do not follow the even the simplest rules to minimize their chances of getting UTI / Cystitis.

Here is a set of simple preventive measures that will help you avoid the condition, or at least reduce is recurrence if you have it already.

I hope you find them helpful…

  1.  Drink lots of water, up to 10 glasses a day if you can manage it. Drinking so much water flushes out bacteria and other micro-organisms which may contaminate your urinary tract
  2. Don’t stifle the urge to urinate, if you need to go – or even think you do – then go! Holding it in may lead to a full-on
  3. (Ladies in particular) Avoid douching or the use of scented sprays can cause infection and irritation around the vaginal area
  4. Wash your genital area before and particularly after sexual intercourse. Also try to urinate before and after an intercourse. This can avoid transference of bacteria from one partner to another and may flush out any that get through
  5. (Ladies in particular) Take showers instead of baths, this prevents the possible entry of bacteria into the urethra (the cause of Cystitis / )
  6. (Ladies in particular) After a bowel movement, wipe yourself from front to back, this prevents the entry of bacteria from your anus into the vagina and on into the urethra
  7. (Ladies in particular) Avoid tight underwear, this creates the perfect hot and humid atmosphere that bugs need to breed
  8. Avoid known bladder irritants such as citrus juice, tomatoes, mature cheese, chocolate, spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol or nicotine. These are known irritants and although you are unlikely to be affected by all of them, you should try to remember them
  9. Avoid too much caffeine - most commonly found in coffee, tea, carbonated drinks, chocolates etc…
  10. If you feel the onset of cystitis / urinary tract infection, take vitamin C as a drink or a tablet. Vitamin C increases the level of acidity in the urine. Some experts believe that this will help in decreasing the bacteria in the urinary tract. There are however other opinions on this, (which I’ll return to at the end of this article)
  11. If you have a painful infection, you can ease the nagging pain by applying a hot-pad, a hot water bottle, or something similar to your abdomen
  12. Spices like cinnamon or juniper can act as a natural antibiotic and help to clean out the kidneys and bladder

You will no doubt notice the absence of a recommendation to down copious amounts of cranberry juice. This is because my own personal experience is that it does not work.

I myself am a long time sufferer from occasional bouts of cystitis, and like millions of others I jumped on the cranberry bandwagon a few years ago when it became the “wonder cure” for cystitis and UTIs. It seemed to work for several years, but then, out of the blue I suffered several attacks, even though I massively increased my intake.

From my own research I believe that very few users gain genuine long-lasting protection or prevention, and many gain no protection at all.

I have however found a treatment which is natural, safe, inexpensive and very effective. It goes by the name of Mannose, or Waterfall-D-Mannose. It works in an unusual and unique way, but it really does work. You will find extensive information about it on my waterfall-d-mannose page.
